CUK’s Mathematics deptt kick starts 3-day workshop on Algebra, Analysis | KNO

Srinagar, June 18 (KNO) : Three day workshop on ‘Algebra and Analysis' organised by the Department of Mathematics, School of Physical and Chemical Sciences, Central University of Kashmir (CUK) began at Nowgam-I academic block of the varsity here on Tuesday. Registrar, Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Nika, Director Research and Development, Prof. Abdul Gani, Dean School of Physical and Chemical Sciences, Prof. Wali Muhammad Shah, former Chancellor and Professor of Mathematics department, Central University of Rajasthan, Prof. A. P. Singh, Adjunct faculty, department of Mathematics, CUK, Prof. M.A Sofi, Coordinator, G. M Sofi, other faculty members and students were present on the occasion. Addressing the gathering, Registrar, Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Nika said the mathematics is mother of all subjects and one cannot do research in any other subject unless they understand mathematics. He said mathematics is the subject to explore the unknown. According to a statement issued to KNO, Prof. Nika said that there is a need to generate interest among the youth towards mathematics. In his welcome address, Dean School of Physical and Chemical Science, Prof. Wali Muhammad Shah thanked the administration for their support for holding the event. He said the department of mathematics is contemplating to organise such workshops in future as well. Former Chancellor and Professor of Mathematics department, Central University of Rajasthan, Prof. A.P Singh said that mathematics has to be understood systematically. Director Research and Development, Prof. Abdul Gani said that there are two aspects of mathematics, one is discovering it and another is teaching. Adjunct faculty, Prof. M.A Sofi said that mathematics is a multi-dimensional subject and one has to look at it through different angles. Assistant Professor, department of Mathematics, Nitin A. Katake conducted the programme proceedings while as Assistant Professor, Dr. Aftab Hussain proposed the vote of thanks. The inaugural was followed by technical sessions, chaired by resource persons.(KNO)
